Lidija Jelic
Born in Serbia, 1960
Lidija Jelic is a typical representative of Serbian naïve
art. Her landscapes portray a surreal, alternative village life, rooted
in religion. The people in her imaginary, pastoral world are happy, and
Lidija masterfully transfers this mood of human immortality, love and
contentment to the canvas. A critic described her work as "fantastic compositions
with impossible content, full of surprising details that emerge out of
boundless imagination and creativity of this artistic "witch" "(Kadijevic,
1999).
